Beyond Boundaries: Feminine Forms
has been inspired by a number of exhibitions that explore works by women artists through themes such as laughter, globalism, feminism, abstraction, and revolution. These exhibition range from The Revolutionary Power of Women's Laughter (1983), Global Feminisms (Brooklyn Museum, 2007), WACK! Art and the Feminist Revolution (Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, 2007), Making Space: Women Artists and Postwar Abstraction (Museum of Modern Art, 2017), We Wanted a Revolution: Black Radical Women, 1965-85 (Brooklyn Museum, 2017) to Women Feminist Avant-Garde (Mumok, Vienna, Austria, 2017).
