Beyond Boundaries: Feminine Forms

(de)forming

The works in this constellation interrogate the idea of a singular and coherent biological female form. Is there one form? Is it natural? While society and the history of art suggest that such a form exists in an ideal way – whole, intact, orderly, and virginal – these artists celebrate the reality that “feminine forms” are performed and multiple. Contingent not upon biology or cultural norms these works “(de)form” their subjects, conjuring new possibilities for bodies unburdened by societal expectations.
